The Rover SD1 is both the code name and eventual production name given to a series of executive cars built by the Specialist Division (later the Jaguar-Rover-Triumph division), and finally the Austin Rover division of British Leyland from 1976 until 1986, when it was replaced by the Rover 800.The SD1 was marketed under various names. In 1977 it won the European Car of the Year title.

The SD1 was built in two different Series models, a Series I from 1976 to 1982, and Series II from 1982-1986. Though there was great initial excitement for the clean break styling and innovation of the SD1, indifferent build quality, materials, and a "that'll do" attitude at the factory garnered it a very mediocre reputation very quickly.

The old Buick engine itself did rather better, powering a range of Rover (P5, P6, SD1/Vitesse), Land Rover (90/110/Defender), MG (MGB GT V-8), Triumph (TR8), and TVR (S-series and 350i) for the better part of 35 years. The last evolution of the engine, a 4.6-liter version, put out 222 naturally aspirated horsepower and was used in the Land.

1980 Other Makes 3500 Additional Info: This may be the nicest Rover SD1 in the country. The dash is not discolored or cracked and is original. The headliner has been redone as well as the seats and door panels. I had the door panels done in vinyl like the European cars because the cloth deteriorated quickly and does not hold up.
